Sperm storage

For sperm storage, we use our own freezer tanks. When you have become pregnant, it is a good idea to buy and store the donor sperm, if you want the same donor for all your children.

Donor sperm can keep forever if it is properly stored. At Vitanova, you can be sure of proper sperm storage.

If you choose sperm from a special donor, e.g. one with another ethnic origin than Danish, you ought to consider reserving several portions at the same time and have them stored with us. In this case, we can advise you on how much you need to order.

If you have a friend you wish to be your sperm donor, his sperm needs to be treated as donor sperm. This means that it must be frozen by one of the approved sperm banks, and then transported to Vitanova, where it can be securely stored.

From a legal point of view, your friend is regarded as a sperm donor, so his sperm must be treated in exactly the same way as any other donor sperm. This means that his sperm will be tested in the same way as donor sperm bought from the sperm banks. He must also have blood tests for HIV and hepatitis at the sperm bank.

Storage of the partner’s sperm

In our globalised world, it is more and more common for couples to live separately for periods. Many people do not stop wanting to become pregnant, even when it is physically impossible to be together for a period. Sperm from the partner can be frozen in a sperm bank in the same way as donor sperm and stored at Vitanova, so the woman can come in for insemination with the partner’s sperm when there is ovulation.

If the partner has an illness that requires strong medicine, e.g. chemotherapy, we recommend that you should always have frozen and stored sperm.
