Reciprocal IVF - ROPA
Since January 2025, same-sex female couples in Denmark are allowed to donate eggs to each other. which means that one is the biological mother and the other can carry and give birth to the child.

What are the benefits of Reciprocal IVF?
The process is the same as for egg donation with a known egg donor, i.e. we will have consultations with both the recipient of the egg and the donor and evaluate both parties medically. We are delighted to be able to help our same-sex female couples!
Your Reciprocal IVF treatment journey
Step 1: Virtual consultation
Your first step to starting treatment is to have a consultation with one of our multilingual medical team through video call. Both parties will have an individual consultation. We will discuss any results of tests and scans previously undertaken and develop a treatment plan offering the best chances of success for you.
Step 2 : Scans
Before egg retrieval, the party that’s donating will take medication (tablets and injections) for 9–12 days. During this time, the donor will undergo 2 to 3 ultrasound examinations and, if necessary, blood tests at a practice or clinic in your home country to monitor the development of your follicles and determine the optimal time for egg retrieval. These examinations can also be carried out at our clinic. Our team will evaluate the results you send us and if needed adjust our plan.
Step 3 : Egg collection
Egg collection takes place at our clinic in Denmark and takes 20–30 minutes. Our doctor retrieves the eggs vaginally using a thin needle (cannula). You will be awake but slightly sedated with painkillers and a local vaginal anesthetic. Some women find the procedure painless, while others experience slight discomfort. After egg retrieval, you should rest (we recommend that you do not drive yourself). You may experience slight pain for a few hours after the treatment.
Step 4 : Creating your embryos
The eggs will be fertilized by our embryologists in the lab with a semen sample of your choosing and purchase. The embryos will be frozen and securely stored in the clinic until you decide to transfer them into the gestational mother.

Semen is purchased separately at one of the sperm banks for instance Born donor bank, European sperm bank or Cryos. Medication is prescribed and purchased by you.
